Maye Musk wears many hats: She’s a mother (perhaps you’ve heard of Elon Musk?), the oldest CoverGirl model in the brand’s history, an author — and yesterday, she’s the birthday girl. Musk turned 72 on April 19, and she was gracious enough to spend some her day sharing her morning skin-care routine with Allure‘s Instagram audience. And if listening to her lovely South African accent doesn’t soothe you, her well-crafted beauty ritual will.
After applying a terry headband to keep her hair from getting wet, Musk starts by addressing any makeup that still may be clinging on from the day before. “No matter how well you clean your eyes, you still have a little left, especially if you’ve done a red carpet or some fabulous event,” she says, applying Lancôme Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover. She follows that up by fulling cleansing her face with the Dr. Barbara Sturm Cleanser.
“I always use the CoverGirl lip balm because my lips get dry, and that doesn’t feel good nor look good,” Musk tells Allure, noting that while she reapplies throughout the day, she always makes sure it’s one of the first things she uses in the morning.
After applying eye cream, Musk uses an especially luxurious moisturizer: Dior Prestige La Creme Texture Essentielle. The $400 cream comes with an applicator, but Musk applies it with her fingertips. If that’s not within your budget, however, she also highly recommends CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, an Allure Best of Beauty and Readers’ Choice Award winner.
Musk doesn’t recommend any particular sunscreen — just that you wear it. “It’s important to wear a hat and have at least SPF 30 on your skin when you go outside,” she tells Allure. “It’s important to protect yourself from the sun.”
