Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 22-year-old microbiology student of the University of Benin city Nigeria, was found unconscious in a pool of blood at Redeemed Christian Church of God parish southern Edo state last Wednesday.
Vera was rushed to hospital but died on Saturday afternoon.
She used the empty church as a place of study ahead of resumption of academic activities. Local media reports have it that her murderers who are still at large attacked and raped her in the church. They added that her head was smashed with a fire extinguisher.
The state Governor, Godwin Obaseki mandated the Police to identify, arrest and prosecute anyone found culpable in Vera’s death.
“The police have been mandated to identify, arrest, and prosecute anyone found culpable in her death. The Violence Against Persons (VAP) Law is in effect in our state. Using this law, we would ensure to investigate what exactly transpired and deal decisively with those found complicit in the dastardly act, whoever they might be”, Obaseki said.
On Sunday, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the global head of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, said: “All I can do at this time is to pray for the family of Omozuwa and do everything possible working with relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators to book.”
